About Toni Tack

Through her tours Toni Tack aims to introduce Indonesia in the most complete and inspiring way.

Toni Tack with friends at BorobudurBorn of Scottish and Swedish parents Toni Tack is a true citizen of the world. Even though her life begins in the UK, Toni’s enthusiasm for global knowledge began at an early in age and soon found her studying at some of the finest universities in England, Switzerland, Paris (Sorbonne), and finally at the University of Amsterdam.

Her true passion is Art History and Archaeology, with a specialization in South East Asia, especially Indonesia where she has now lived for over twenty years, mainly in Java and Bali. Yet Toni remains a British and a Dutch national and still enjoys the charm of Europe where she returns yearly. She writes from Amsterdam:

Sitting here, looking out of my window on to the canal, watching the boats going up and down in the early evening. As I look through the branches of fresh green leaves from the tree in front of my window, and at the same time think back on the garden in Menguntur and the life I have in Bali, a realization comes over me that I have so much to be thankful for.

A South East Art Historian and Archaeologist, having lived and worked in Indonesia for over twenty years, Toni has a deep knowledge and interest in the country. Her contacts span all levels of society from University professors, politicians, businessmen, spiritual leaders, artists, musicians, and artisans.

She has lectured and created tours for:

Toni also participated in the 2003 BBC documentary about Indonesia.

Comments about Toni and her tours

Few people have travelled so widely over the Indonesian archipelago, she feels a deep affinity to this country which she knows so well.

Travelling in Indonesia with Toni is a treat for those who have an explorer's instinct. Her tours, which she personally creates, help add a deeper dimension to travelling in this part of the world. Due to her many personal contacts from all walks of life in Indonesia, participants on her tours experience a unique insight.

Added to this her lectures that compliment the tours help to cement visual impressions. Toni's ability to speak six languages and her open friendly attitude, and understanding for this part of the world, makes her a skilled tour manager and master guide.

Toni finds it exciting to discover cultural and sociological links between countries in South East Asia, and she is able to convey this excitement to the many visitors she has accompanied.

Knowing Toni is a delight, travelling with her is getting to know her a little more and becoming her friend is a true priviledge!"
